Sweet Dreams for Autism - A Benefit for the Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities

About Sweet Dreams

According to the Department of Education, nearly 6,000 children were diagnosed with autism this year in New York State alone. The need for research, clinical, educational, and family support services geared toward the unique problems faced by those living with Autism Spectrum Disorders has grown tremendously. Here on Long Island there are a few facilities for these individuals and families to turn to, but these facilities need support and funding.

The annual Sweet Dreams Benefit is held to raise funds for the Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities at Stony Brook University which is a facility geared towards helping children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. These events consist of top pastry chefs creating and serving delicious chocolate delicacies to hundreds of guests.

Sweet Dreams for Autism Directly Benefits:

Sweet Dreams History

I find it hard to believe that the first Sweet Dreams event was four years ago. We are excited about this being our fifth anniversary and we are committed to keeping the event as successful and enjoyable as it has been in the past.

One of the additions this year is obviously the new web site. Please use it as a tool to further educate yourself about Autism, find an excellent pastry chef from our participating Chefs, and just pass the word on about the premier chocolate event on Long Island.

To give you a brief history of the event, I will start by introducing the founders of the event. Christopher Singlemann, Executive Chef of Watermill Caterers, and April Griffin, Sales Representative, Paris Gourmet. In a combined effort they decided to bring together 12 – 15 of the top pastry chefs on Long Island to create delicious chocolate desserts and outrageous chocolate sculptors. Watermill Caterers has donated their facility and staff to host the event & Paris Gourmet provides support with product and cash awards for the participating chefs. When the decision was made for the Cody Center to be the beneficiary of all proceeds, Special event coordinators from Stony Brook Hospital were recruited for assistance. As all of the food, time, and effort are donated, 100 % of the proceeds goes directly to the Cody Center.

The event itself has raised over $200,000, in the past four years. That success is due to ticket sales, corporate sponsorship, personal donations and recently added silent auction. Those that have attended in the past will be able to tell you what an incredible evening it is. Starting with an extensive gourmet buffet, you proceed to the main Chocolate Extravaganza. Here you will find whimsical chocolate designs and delectable creations by the finest pastry chefs around. It doesn't stop there; continue on to find the Watermill chocolate fountains, a beautiful wine bar, Van Gough Vodka station, passed hor doeuvres, coffee and hot chocolate bar and various other guest stations.

Most importantly, what you must realize is the fact that you are helping children and families directly affected by Autism. Follow the link to discover information regarding the Cody Center and Autism.

Thank you so much for making a difference!
